Ryan Garcia Forget Past Controversy With Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez

JAKARTA - Ryan Garcia prepares for a fight against Javier Fortuna in Los Angeles on July 16.

In a press conference ahead of the duel, Garcia praised Canelo Alvarez. However, the memories with the Mexican boxer and his coach are not entirely sweet.

"I said what I had to say, and I wish the best for him and Eddy (Reinoso). I love you guys very much," Garcia said as quoted by Izquierdazo, Friday, June 10.

In February, Garcia left Canelo's gym to join his former coach, Joe Goosen.

Garcia's decision caused debate among the media. Nevertheless, the Mexican-American boxer had enough reasons to leave.

When asked about the lessons learned under Canelo and Reinoso, Garcia described positive words.

"(They say) to calm down, be consistent in the gym, handle yourself like a champion in some ways," Garcia said.

Garcia also said he has a good relationship with Canelo and his former coach.

"I give them credit for what they do. For me, those are just some of the differences."

Controversy in the past

Some time ago, Reinoso and Canelo criticized Garcia's lack of commitment. They didn't like Garcia's boxing development and the way he worked.

The comment bothered Garcia, and he responded politely.

"To be honest, I don't think he respects me as much as he seems," Garcia said.

"I had a good heart and good intentions. And now I'm in a good place," Garcia explained at the time on Boxing with Chris Mannix.

According to the Mexican-American boxer, he has forgotten all about the controversy.
