President Jokowi Reminds The Importance Of Protecting Wakatobi Coral Reef
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo reminded all parties to preserve the coral reefs in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), because it is a big asset in the area to develop a blue economy.
"The coral reefs in Wakatobi are careful, they must be really protected, lest anything be damaged at all because this will be a great asset for Wakatobi, for Southeast Sulawesi Province, in order to build a blue economy in the future, this is indeed new. the initial stages," said the President at Patuno Resort, Wakatobi Regency, as stated in a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 9.
President and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo transplanted coral reefs to preserve coral reefs in the oceans around Wakatobi.
The President hopes that similar activities can be carried out in other areas so that the ecosystem of Indonesia's marine resources can be maintained.
"I think this is a very good activity from the entire community and also environmental-loving organizations, I think this must continue to be mobilized," he added.
Apart from transplanting coral reefs, Jokowi also released hatchlings with students and the community at Patuno Resort, Wakatobi Regency.
Jokowi said the activity was one of the efforts aimed at preserving Wakatobi's marine ecosystem.
"This is to protect our marine ecosystem because Wakatobi has 1.3 million hectares which is a national park, where there are also many very beautiful coral reefs," he said.
The President also wrote a message regarding the preservation of coral reefs on a board shaped like a turtle. Later, the message will be taken to a location called Jokowi Point, Sombu Dive, which is located about four kilometers from Patuno Resort.
"Preserve coral reefs for the future of the earth. We are proud of Indonesia's marine natural wealth," wrote Jokowi.
