Mamuju Residents Flock To The Mountains After The Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake, The Regent Asks To Remain Calm
MAMUJU - The Regent of Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Sitti Sutinah Suhardi appealed to his residents to remain calm after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 hit parts of the Mamuju Regency.
"The government will remain with the community and hope that the people of Mamuju will not panic, remain calm but remain vigilant, and follow the government's official advice regarding the earthquake that just occurred," he said in Mamuju as reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 8.
"The government in Mamuju urges people to stay away from tall and cracked buildings, and look for safe places," he added.
The earthquake made residents flock to leave the city to the highlands in Mamuju.
Residents chose to flee in mountainous areas to avoid the impact of the earthquake. Some residents took refuge in the Mamuju Manakarra Stadium and the Mamuju Regent's office.
