Instagram Has Badges Feature For Content Creators
JAKARTA - After testing it in the last few months, finally Instagram officially launched the Badges feature. This feature allows users or creators to generate revenue from badge sales when they stream Live Badges on their Instagram account.
Quoting Neowin, Wednesday, October 21, the Badges feature is of course a field for making money for creators, they can even use this as a form of donation. The badge is heart shaped.
Instagram says the Badges feature will appear next to comments when the commenter has paid to buy the badge. These badges range from US $ 0.99 (US) for a single heart, to US $ 4.99 for a triple badge.
"The majority of content creators dedicate their lives through this feature (Instagram Live). It is very important for us to enable them to make money from the content they display," said COO Instagram, Justin Osofsky.
"This is our effort to make Instagram a platform for content creators to share their stories, get a lot of followers, and make money," he added.
Later, the Live Badges payment process will be similar to payment on YouTube's Super Chat and Stars Facebook game streamer. Initially, Instagram didn't intend to take advantage of this feature, but in the end it did too.
The Facebook-owned social media platform saw an estimated 70 percent increase in live stream views from February to March, with people looking for more ways to consume content and connect during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Given the increase, it makes sense for Instagram to make an effort to attract more users to continue broadcasting, and badges will add an additional incentive for them.
For the time being, this Instagram paid badge has only been launched in the US, France, UK, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and Japan first. In the meantime, Instagram will match earnings from badges starting next month.
Meanwhile, the Badges feature will be a bigger consideration at this time, because TikTok will get their audience first, and will likely continue to try to maximize the potential income of its creators through the same thing.
However, it is possible that TikTok will be Instagram's toughest challenger. Given that the platform is also developing tools and options to monetize video content uploaded to TikTok.
