Get B Corp Certification, RMU Committed To High Standards Of Business Practices

JAKARTA - PT Rimba Makmur Utama (RMU) has obtained B Corp certification, and has officially become one of 5,020 Certified B Corporations from 154 industries in 80 countries which are considered to have made a positive impact on its stakeholders and for society.

RMU is a Nature-Based Solution Enterprise (a company that contributes to reducing carbon emissions through nature-based solutions) that started and managed the Katingan Mentaya Project (KMP), an approach to restoration and conservation of 157,000 hectares of peat forest ecosystem in Central Kalimantan through the Utilization Permit. Forests (PBPH).

RMU collaborates with the community and village government elements in 35 villages around the concession area, creating sustainable alternative livelihoods for local communities, improving the economy and carrying out educational and capacity building activities in various fields, such as farming without fuel and without chemicals, education on health and hygiene, nutrition, entrepreneurship, as well as contributing to the achievement of the 12 UN SDGs goals.

KMP is the largest conservation activity in the world in terms of reducing carbon emissions, which is approximately 7.5 million tons of CO2 per year for a 60-year concession period, or the equivalent of eliminating emissions from 2 million cars per year.

Dharsono further explained that B Corp certification is very selective. Corporate governance, management of employees, clients, communities and the environment are the things that are measured in the assessment process. B Corp is one of the international certifications that not only assesses the product or service, but also the company behind the product or service as a whole.

"We will continue to improve, measure and document the benefits we generate for stakeholders, and will undergo a verification process every three years to maintain this certification," concluded Dharsono.

B Corporation certification or abbreviated as B Corp is a global certification that has a comprehensive assessment standard to make business people/companies become agents of social change for the better. The B Corp certification is issued by B Lab, a global non-profit organization from the United States. To date, more than 5020 companies in 154 different industries in 80 countries have joined the B Corp community.

Companies that earn B Corp certification are companies that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

PT Rimba Makmur Utama scored 114 out of 200 in Impact Assessment B. A minimum of 80 points is required to achieve B Corp status. To date, more than 5,020 companies have obtained B Corp certification.

To be certified as a B Corp, businesses must meet high standards in five areas: Governance, Employees, Community, Environment, and Buyers.
