Chromebook Update Will Now Alert If USB-C Cable Doesn't Work

JAKARTA - Google rolled out several updates for Chromebooks, the first is an update to the note-taking app Cursive, then an increase in the screen zoom feature, and finally a warning feature for USB-C cables.

You may often use a USB-C cable to connect a docking station or monitor to your laptop and it doesn't work. However, that does not mean your cable is damaged. Because, many cables look the same but function differently.

That's what this new feature on Chromebooks does. Now you can get extra monitors up and running more easily and reduce your confusion.

In a Google blog, Director of Chrome OS Software Alexander Kuscher says that a qualified Chromebook will tell you if the USB-C cable you are using doesn't support the display, or doesn't work properly for your laptop.

You'll also get a notification if the cable you're using doesn't support the high-performance USB 4/Thunderbolt 3 standard like your Chromebook does.

To start, this feature will be available on Chromebooks with 11th or 12th generation Intel Core CPUs with USB 4 or Thunderbolt capabilities.

But not to worry, because this feature will be coming to more devices in the future.
