Riau-Malaysia Discuss RoRo Transportation And The Melaka-Rupat Dumai Bridge
PEKANBARU - The Governor of Riau, Syamsuar, together with Yang Dipertuan Negeri Melaka Tun Dato Seri Utama H Mohd. Ali Mohd. Rustam agreed to discuss the construction of the Dumai-Melaka RoRo and the Melaka-Rupat Dumai bridge for connectivity between Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia through Dumai.
"This agreement was reached as an effort to follow up on the implementation of the IMT-GT conference which was held in Bangkok some time ago, and the Indonesian government will continue the program that the people of Riau have been waiting for," said Riau Governor Syamsuar, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 28.
Syamsuar explained that during the Indonesia Malaysia Thailand (IMT) Growth Triagle (GT) conference, he happened to be part of President Jokowi's delegation and heard for himself the planning between Indonesia and the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Malaysia.
According to him, the Indonesian government through the Minister of Transportation and Regional Government (Pemda) is still preparing steps for the Dumai-Melaka RoRo builder.
"We support that if it is realized, preparations are needed for the initial stage. However, it is not impossible that the construction of this bridge will be realized together. Moreover, the Indonesian government through the Minister of Trade has appointed Riau as a trading center in the Sumatra region," he said.
Syamsuar said Riau was appointed as a marketer of export commodities to Malaysia and Thailand with countries that have socio-cultural ties to one family.
On the other hand, from an economic perspective, Riau has commodities that can be marketed to Malaysia and Malaysia can also market their commodities to Indonesia through Roro Dumai-Melaka.
"The development of the Dumai-Melaka RoRo is included in the RPJMN, which means Mr. President's program for 5 years until 2024. Therefore, the commitment between the two parties is still ongoing and will continue to be implemented. The Riau Provincial Government will provide the best if there are problems in Melaka," he said. .
Currently, he said, President Jokowi has also built the Sumatra toll road from Lampung to Aceh, including in Riau. If the construction of the Sumatran Toll Road is successful, it will certainly make tremendous progress for Indonesia and Malaysia.
The existence of Roro Dumai-Melaka transportation is believed to accelerate the development of the tourism sector, creative economy and others.
