Regency Government Asks Coal And Palm Oil Companies In South Sulawesi's Tapin To Support Efforts To Prevent Forest And Land Fires
KALSEL - Coal mining companies and oil palm plantations thrive in Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel). Facing the drought in front of their eyes, the local regency government requested that these companies actively support efforts to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla).
Tapin Regent HM Arifin Arpan said the company also had an obligation to contribute to efforts to prevent and overcome forest and land fires, which could have an impact on the company.
"If forest and land fires occur, it will affect the stability of the company," he said in Rantau, South Kalimantan, Wednesday, May 25.
In addition to cooperating with companies, the Tapin Regency Government collaborates with the TNI and Polri in delivering counseling on efforts to prevent and control forest and land fires in vulnerable villages.
"Village heads are asked to be more concerned about lands that have the potential for forest and land fires, for example in the sub-districts of Candi Laras Selatan, Candi Laras Utara, Tapin Selatan and Tapin Tengah," he said.
He also conveyed the importance of every village having a portable water pump and other equipment needed to support forest and land fire prevention.
