Kikan Namara Prepares To Fill Premiere With Live Performance: Video Screening Of Sabang – Merauke Performance
JAKARTA – Premiere with Live Performance: Video Screening The Sabang – Merauke performance will be held on 3-5 June at the Ballroom Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta. Five national singers prepare themselves for a practice session. They are Kikan Namara, former vocalist of Cokelat, Mirabeth Sonia (Finalist of Indonesian Idol X), Christine Tambunan, Taufan Purbo and Alsant Nababan.
At the event, Kikan Namara was lined up to take on two roles at once, namely as lead vocal and also as music director. Although initially he was hesitant to take up the offer as MD, thanks to the support system from the people closest to him, Kikan finally challenged himself and made it a new experience to 'level up' in the field of music.
“We must dare to challenge ourselves to get out of our comfort zone. So far, my comfort zone as a singer, and now ventured to become a music director. With the support of everyone, it turns out that I am interested and enjoy the role. Even though as a music director as well as a singer, the stress level is quite high. This is a form of my contribution in loving the country and to remind me how rich Indonesian culture is,” explained Kikan during a training session at iCanStudioLive Senopati, South Jakarta, Wednesday, May 25.
Kikan added, the difficulty level of being a music director at the Sabang – Merauke Performance is that you must be able to convey the essence of each music, song, and dance that is performed correctly so that it doesn't stray from the context. Apart from making sure the music sounds perfect, Kikan has to divide her focus when performing as a singer. Because when performing in performances, apart from requiring him to sing a melodious voice, Kikan also has to change into four traditional clothes with limited time behind the stage.
“The most challenging thing is because each region has its own story, so the mood demands that we present must match the song. While on the back stage, I was the most nervous because I had to change clothes four times. It's pretty fun and stressful. So when my husband, who was the producer of the show, asked me to be the music director, I got cranky and let him down for three days," said Kikan.
Meanwhile for Mirabeth, being involved in the Sabang – Merauke Performance is a matter of pride. The singer who was born in Nabire, Papua is enthusiastic about performing in early June. He made various preparations, ranging from regular vocal training to physical preparation in order to be able to present a maximum performance.
“By being a part of this show, I am even more proud to be an Indonesian who is very rich in culture from Sabang to Merauke. Moreover, I performed traditional songs that made me motivated and challenged to give my best when performing on stage. By being held again in Jakarta, I hope this show can spread positive energy and make people love the country more," said Mirabeth.
This performance featured 21 folk songs and one national anthem, which were performed alternately by five singers. In addition, this performance involves 46 traditional and modern musicians as well as 135 dancers who have experience both in the country and internationally.
Big names in the performing arts stage took part in this performance. For visual matters, Sandhidea Cahyo Narpati, Pulung Jati, Dian Bokir and Rizky Dafin collaborated on the choreography line. There was also a strong regional ethnic feel in this performance thanks to Kidung & the team in the traditional music composing section and the support from Ava & the Orchestra Team. The harmonization of the performers was concluded sweetly by the director Rusmedi Agus.
