These 3 Factors Made PPP Want To Form A Coalition With Golkar And PAN

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the PPP DPP Arwani Thomafi mentioned three reasons PPP started political cooperation as the United Indonesia Coalition with Golkar and PAN.

"The presidential election has a stipulation of 20 percent, therefore sooner or later like PAN and PPP, inevitably they have to build a coalition," said Arwani Thomafi, Tuesday, May 24, quoted from Antara.

The reason for the 20 percent threshold, he said, was the first thing that required PPP to build a coalition for the 2024 presidential election.

Then secondly, PPP builds political cooperation towards coalitions because it sees that the 2024 General Election is an important and strategic momentum to reinforce the parties' commitment to make the contestation arena in 2024 to strengthen national unity.

"We are closing the gaps that open divisions among the nation's children, we want in 2024 to be the face of elections in the current digital era, to be extraordinarily comfortable elections, elections that truly describe the people's party," he said.

The third one, he said, is the desire of the political party he leads to have a winning strategy that is ready early.

"Therefore, for us, at least these three things encourage to form a political cooperation that leads to a coalition carrying presidential and vice-presidential candidates this year," he said.

Secretary General of PAN DPP Eddy Soeparno said his party joined the coalition because of the idea of presenting a democratic party that was safe, peaceful, not divided, and avoided identity politics as happened in 2019.

"In the 2019 election, it became an ideological battle, so the politics is identity politics. Now what we want is politics of ideas, no more identity politics," he said.
