Kevin/Marcus Get Easy Opponents At Indonesia Masters 2022, On Paper It's Easy To Lose
JAKARTA – Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon are certain to have easy opponents at the 2022 Indonesia Masters when they make their first appearance in two months on the nearest 7-12 June.
In this Super 500 event, Kevin/Marcus are the first seeds. As the favorites to win, this world number one pair has an opponent who on paper is relatively easy to beat.
The opponent in question is the representative of France, Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov, who is ranked 28th in the world. Kevin/Marcus and Christo/Toma have only faced each other once in an official tournament.
The Minions managed to come out victorious in the only meeting that took place at the 2021 Denmark Open. At that time, the pair who owned two All England titles carved out an easy straight sets victory.
Even though they are superior on paper, Kevin/Marcus certainly can't get carried away. The reason is, Marcus has just recovered from an operation that could potentially interfere with his game.
The Minions last appeared at the All England event in March. Marcus then underwent surgery on his ankle which forced Kevin to partner with other athletes in the tournament between April and May.
Now Marcus has been declared ready to make a comeback at Istora Senayan. The condition of the 31-year-old player is reportedly fit and ready to appear in front of the public itself.
Apart from the Minions, Indonesia also has six other representatives from the men's doubles at the Indonesia Masters later. Among them is the veteran pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan who is the second seed.
The other five representatives were Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi, who directly met their compatriots Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Rambitan.
