YouTube Experiments With Graphics Features, Can See The Most Viewed Videos
JAKARTA - YouTube is revealing several updates to its video player starting today, including a graph showing which parts of a video are rewatched the most.
The graph will appear next to the playback bar, highlighting sections that have been replayed by multiple viewers. If we jump to the most watched part of the clip, then we will see a small notification like the word "most viewed" that appears every time the user scrolls.
This is the company's experiment for paid Premium subscribers, and YouTube is making it available to all users watching on their desktop or on its mobile app.
"The top of the graph shows the portion of the video that has been played back the most, and the graph will only appear if the user starts searching. We found in our experiments that viewers liked this feature, with 85 percent of users liking this option," said YouTube.
Launching CNET, Thursday, May 19, this feature can actually be really helpful for longer videos, or tutorials that require clips to get to the point. But from a content creator's point of view, it can also affect watch time.
Many content creators have raised this concern early on in testing, but YouTube has assured the presence of video graphics that it doesn't reduce watch time.
Additionally, YouTube is rolling out this feature to smart TVs and game consoles as well, providing another way for people to find specific sections in clips.
On the other hand, YouTube has also added a new tool in YouTube Studio that allows content creators to see which auto-subtitles are used the most in their clips.
The new tool can help content creators understand which languages are most relevant to their audience, which can then help guide which translations to focus on in their own captioned uploads, while providing more insight into the audiences reached with those clips.
