Bullet Reject Athlete Eki Febri Donates First Gold For Athletics, Also Successful "Revenge"
JAKARTA – Indonesia's leading shot put athlete, Eki Febri Ekawati, managed to present the first gold medal for athletics at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi on Tuesday, May 17.
Eki Febri successfully climbed to the highest podium at My Dinh Stadium after posting a throw of 15.20 meters. He was ahead of two Thai athletes Areerat Intadis and Athima Saowaphaiboon with throws of 15.04 and 12.51 meters, respectively.
"Hopefully this gold medal can motivate other colleagues to get the best achievements," said Eki Febri, after the race.
Previously, Eki Febri won gold at the SEA Games Malaysia in 2017. However, he had to settle for silver in the next edition.
At the Philippines SEA Games in 2019, Eki Febri lost to Areerat.
The gold medal donated by Eki Febri is the 26th gold medal for the Indonesian contingent. However, at the time this news was written, Indonesia had added one gold from swimming through athlete Flairene Candrea Wonomiharjo.
Flairene rose to the highest podium after being the best in the women's 100 meters backstroke. This is the second gold from swimming as well as the 27th gold for Indonesia in the biennial event.
