158 Houses Affected By Floods In Buol Regency

PALU - A total of 158 families in Mulat Village, Bukal District, Buol Regency, Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng) were affected by flooding on Thursday, May 12, at around 20:44 central Indonesia time, mainly because their houses were inundated with water up to about 50 centimeters high.

"High-intensity rains that started on Thursday, May 12 at 14.15 central Indonesia time resulted in the Lama River overflowing because it was unable to accommodate all the rain discharge, causing the Mulat Village to be flooded," said the Head of Logistics and Emergency Division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province, Andi Sembiring, who was contacted in Palu, Friday morning.

He explained that the 158 families were spread over two hamlets, namely 60 families in Hamlet I and 98 families in Hamlet II. Of the 158 families affected, 97 people are infants and toddlers.

"Public facilities affected include the Mulat Village Office, Kindergarten, and State Elementary School (SD) 07 Bukal. So far, there have been no casualties and the affected residents have chosen not to evacuate and stay in their homes," he said, quoted by Antara.

Andi said that currently, flood-affected residents need emergency tents to evacuate, clean water, ready-to-eat food, baby and toddler needs, and equipment, as well as the construction of 700-meter drainage.

Currently, the Central Sulawesi Provincial BPBD and Buol Regency BPBD are still collecting data on infrastructure and facilities and infrastructure affected by the flood.

He appealed to the residents of Mulat Village to remain vigilant, anticipating similar disasters that could occur at any time.

"We continue to coordinate with the Mulat Village Government officials to anticipate a bigger impact due to the flooding that occurred," he added.
