49 Cattle In Aceh Besar Indicated For Foot and Mouth Disease

BANDA ACEH - The Agriculture Service of Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh, stated that as many as 49 community cows in the area were indicated to have Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Head of the Aceh Besar District Agriculture Office, Jakfar, said that dozens of cattle indicated by FMD were spread over 15 villages in six sub-districts.

"Dozens of cattle are still indicated to have Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). To ensure that the cattle are affected by Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), they must go through a laboratory examination", said Jakfar as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

Jakfar said that the highest number of cattle indicated by FMD was in Montasik Sub-district with a total of 17 heads, Want Jaya Sub-district, and Lhoknga Sub-district each with nine heads.

As well as Indrapuri and Krueng Barona Jaya sub-districts each of four and Sukamakmur sub-district one tail.

"In Aceh, there is no laboratory to check livestock for indications of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). So, to check it, fig must be imported from outside Aceh", said Jakfar.

Jakfar said the examination was carried out by a team from the Medan Veterinary Center. The team took samples from livestock that were indicated to have Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

In addition to sampling, said Jakfar, the Aceh Besar District Agriculture Service also dispatched a team to provide vaccines to livestock that were indicated for the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

"Vaccines are given to prevent the transmission and spread of oral and nail diseases. Cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) are starting to spread nationwide, including Aceh", said Jakfar.
