Guardiola Jokes About De Bruyne That Made A Quat-trick For City: I'm Disappointed He Failed To Score His Fifth Goal
JAKARTA - Manchester City managed to carve a big 5-1 victory when they traveled to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday morning. Of the five goals for The Citizens, four of them were contributed by Kevin De Bruyne.
Performing extraordinary at the Molineux Stadium in the postponed match week 33 of the 2021/2022 Premier League, De Bruyne's performance was able to satisfy coach Josep Guardiola.
While joking, Guardiola was only disappointed that De Bruyne failed to score his fifth goal because his effort hit the post.
"What can I say? In the second half of the season, De Bruyne was perfect. I am very disappointed with him because he failed to score the fifth goal when he hit the post!" Guardiola said, quoted from the official Man City website.
After scoring four goals against Wolves, De Bruyne has now scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League this season. With that note, Guardiola said that De Bruyne's performance had become sharper this season.
"De Bruyne is a very generous player and always has the sense to make assists, but I think this season he has the feeling to be more productive and score goals," said Guardiola.
"He scored the winning goal against Chelsea. He scored against Real Madrid and has scored the decisive goal," said the coach.
Overall, Guardiola said he was happy with the performance of the Belgian midfielder.
"I'm very happy for De Bruyne. Scoring four goals in a decisive part of the season at this time is very important," said Guardiola.
This victory over Wolves makes Manchester City now only need an additional four points to ensure the Premier League title this season.
