Three Weeks After Eid-ul-Fitr No Increase In COVID-19 Cases, Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Is Optimistic Of Indonesia Entering Endemic Transition
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Muhadjir Effendy, is optimistic that Indonesia can soon enter an endemic transition if there is no increase in COVID-19 cases within 2 to 3 weeks after the 2022 Eid celebrations.
“The stakes are after this holiday. If after 2 weeks or 3 weeks of Eid al-Fitr there is no increase in cases, then we are optimistic that we will soon enter a transition to endemic," said Muhadjir in his statement, Thursday, May 12.
According to Muhadjir, there are already signs that Indonesia is entering a transition to endemic, namely COVID-19 cases are starting to decline, the death rate and the occupancy rate in hospitals are also decreasing.
“Now there are signs that, for example, can be seen from the signs of death. Anyway, judging from the first number of cases, active cases, then what is the positive rate. Then the hospital occupancy rate, the death rate," said Muhadjir. In fact, added Muhadjir, the death rate from COVID-19 is currently ranked 14th below existing diseases, such as cancer, coronary heart disease, to stroke." Now the death of COVID-19 is not the highest among the existing diseases. Even from the results of a small survey conducted by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, it is ranked 14th, "he concluded.
