Paul Waterpauw Officially Becomes PJ Governor Of West Papua, Manokwari Situation Is Conducive

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian inaugurated Komjen Pol. retired. Paulus Waterpauw became the Acting Governor of West Papua on Thursday 12 May. The Deputy for Potential Management of Border Areas at the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) replaces Dominggus Mandacan, who has ended his term of office.

By the time the inauguration took place, the situation in Manokwari, the capital of West Papua Province, was under control. Hundreds of joint military and police officers were alerted to anticipate the refusal of the inauguration of the acting governor.

In his remarks when inaugurating the Acting Governors including Paulus Waterpauw in Jakarta, the Minister of Home Affairs advised; The first is to maintain political stability and regional security.

He also advised that the PJ Governor of West Papua should pay attention to programs that are of national concern to the government in the regions. Especially the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic which has not ended and the acceleration of regional economic recovery.

In addition, accelerating the reality of APBD spending by involving the private sector and MSMEs for better economic growth.

"Also pay attention to the national strategy program for education, health, as well as road and bridge infrastructure. The acting governor should not just sit in the office but go directly to the community to see the problems faced by the community," he concluded.
