Bank Indonesia Targets 15 Million QRIS Users Throughout Indonesia, 200 Thousand In East Kalimantan

JAKARTA - Head of Representative for Bank Indonesia (BI) East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Ricky Perdana Gozali said, BI targets at least 15 million Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS) users nationally, and 200 thousand more in East Kalimantan.

"For these 200 thousand users in 2022, we have carried out a strategy to all areas of East Kalimantan, so we chose Samarinda and other districts," Ricky said in Samarinda, quoted from Antara, Thursday, May 12.

Merdeka Market on Jalan Merdeka, Sungai Pinang is the first market in Samarinda to use a cash less payment system.

This was marked by the launch of the use of the Healthy, Innovation, and Safe to Use (SIAP) Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) application by the Mayor of Samarinda Dr H Andi Harun which was coupled with the provision of the Bank Indonesia Social Program (PSBI) on Wednesday, (22/02). 12).

The QRIS application had previously been used by 111 traders out of a total of 179 traders at Pasar Merdeka Samarinda before the official launch was carried out at Big Mall Samarinda on Monday (9/5).

"In Samarinda, there were three that were launched yesterday (Palaran Market, Lok Bahu Market and Big Mall), then four others in other districts so that we can reach all of East Kalimantan in East Kalimantan," he explained.

Ricky admitted that the government's target is that in the next five years all transactions can be done digitally.

He added that BI will continue to encourage the use of QRIS which will suppress cash transactions and turn them into non-cash transactions. That way, people can do transactions simply by using a cellphone.

The Head of BI Representative, who had just been appointed to replace Tutuk SH Cahyo, revealed that one of the problems or obstacles in digitalization is the network.

"So we, Bank Indonesia, as well as the government and related institutions have collaborated and improved this network so that it is in line and can support the concept of this digitalization strategy," he concluded.
