Jokowi Invites South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol To Come To Indonesia Via Megawati

JAKARTA - Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri conveyed an invitation from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to come to Indonesia.

This moment occurred when Megawati held a meeting with Megawati at the Korean Presidential Palace in Seoul City, South Korea on Wednesday, May 11. The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia was present after following the inauguration procession of Yoon Suk Yeol as president replacing Moon Jae Jin.

Initially, Megawati arrived at the presidential palace complex at 09.45 local time. Once there, he fills out the guest book accompanied by President Yoon.

In the guest book, Megawati wrote that she hoped that the friendship between Indonesia and South Korea would be even closer.

"Hopefully the friendship between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of South Korea will be stronger forever. Warm greetings, Megawati Soekarnoputri, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia," Megawati wrote as quoted from her written statement, Wednesday, May 11.

After writing the guest book and accompanied by President Yoon, the two then took pictures in front of reporters. Next, they walked hand in hand towards the meeting room. Megawati sits on the right and President Yoon on the left.

"It is an honor for me to be able to meet Mrs. Megawati, who has long contributed to the promotion of peace on the Korean peninsula," President Yoon said at the meeting.

He hoped that Megawati would always be willing to give attention and support to South Korea. Moreover, South Korea and Indonesia have both gone through a tortuous historical journey and succeeded in achieving democracy and achieving economic development.

In addition, Megawati is also considered to have a close relationship with South Korea because she often establishes a close relationship.

"Indonesia is the only country in the Asean region that is a special partner or special partner for South Korea. During this half century, Indonesia and South Korea have made a big leap in the field of cooperation," said President Yoon.

And this year, he continued, Indonesia became the presidency in the G-20. Next year, Indonesia will chair the Asean Summit. "In relation to these two things, we hope that Indonesia can continue to show its leadership as well as provide support and attention to South Korea," he said.

President Yoon's statement was later responded to by Megawati. He expressed his gratitude and did not forget to convey greetings from President Jokowi.

"On this auspicious occasion, I personally and my family, and on behalf of President Joko Widodo, would like to once again congratulate you on becoming the 20th president of South Korea," said Megawati.

Megawati then said that she had gone to South Korea with the permission of President Jokowi. "And he delivered it personally, conveyed my best regards and please convey an invitation that one day (President Yoon, ed) can visit Indonesia," he said.

Hearing this, President Yoon then expressed his gratitude for President Jokowi.

After the meeting, President Yoon escorted Megawati to the car. They seemed to be talking until finally Megawati entered the car.

At this meeting, Megawati was accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Gandi Sulistyanto, General Treasurer of the DPP PDIP Olly Dondokambey, Chair of the PDIP DPP Rokhmin Dahuri, and the Director of Foreign Relations of the DPP PDIP Hanjaya Setiawan.
