Indonesian Rowing Team Targets Seven Gold At SEA Games Hanoi 2022

JAKARTA - The Indonesian rowing team immediately went to Vietnam to take part in the 2022 SEA Games Hanoi after completing their training camp (TC) in the Netherlands for one month.

"We are already in Vietnam today and arrived at the inn at around 15:30 local time. Tomorrow morning we will immediately train," said the rowing coach Muhammad Hadris when contacted by Antara, Tuesday.

Even though it is still in the momentum of Eid, Hadris continued, the Red and White rowing team is still excited to be able to give their best at the Hanoi SEA Games.

Mutiara Rahma Putri and her friends left for Vietnam early to finalize preparations, considering that the rowing sport began to be competed on May 9, or three days before the opening ceremony of the Hanoi SEA Games.

Based on the technical handbook for the rowing branch, before competing, athletes will have the opportunity to undergo official training starting on May 6.

Overall, the Indonesian rowing team fielded 34 athletes with a target of seven gold medals from 16 events contested at the 31st edition of the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia.

To realize the stated target, 18 athletes who have great potential to win medals have undergone a training camp in the Netherlands for one month from April 1 to May 2.

In addition to undergoing training camps, Indonesian rowing athletes also underwent a series of trials by participating in several championships.

For example, by taking part in the Ghent Spring Rowing Regatta in Belgium on April 9-10. As a result, the Red and White squad brought home seven gold, four silver and one bronze medals.

The target set at the SEA Games Hanoi is an increase from the achievement of the previous edition at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, namely three gold and two bronze.

At that time, Indonesia won the most medals for rowing and was ahead of the Philippines (three gold and one bronze), Vietnam (three silver, one bronze), Thailand (three silver), and Myanmar (two bronze).

The three gold medals won by Indonesia were respectively contributed by Mahendra Yanto and Ihram (men's lightweight double sculls), Denri Maulidzar al Ghiffari and Ferdiansyah (men's pairs), and Julianti and Yayah Rokayah (women's pairs).

While for bronze, Kakan Kusmana (men's lightweight single sculls) and Mutiara Rahma Putri (women's lightweight single sculls) respectively.
