A Total Of 657 Inmates Get Special Remission, Immediately Free On Eid 1443 H

JAKARTA - A total of 675 inmates (prisoners) received special remission (RK) II or were immediately released on Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijriah.

"It is hoped that the giving of Eid al-Fitr 1443 H remissions can be used as reflection and motivation to always introspect and keep trying to be a better human being," said the Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Rika Aprianti in a written statement in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara, Sunday 1 May.

The remission, according to Rika, is a form of appreciation for the changes in behavior they show when serving a sentence in a correctional institution (lapas), state detention center (rutan), or special child development institutions (LPKA).

"Meanwhile, as many as 138,557 inmates received RK I or a partial reduction. A total of 139,232 inmates received RK Eid this year," added Rika.

Based on data from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the number of prisoners throughout Indonesia as of April 22, 2021 was 272,721 people consisting of 226,767 prisoners and 45,954 prisoners. Of this number, there are 203,206 prisoners who are Muslim.

Rika said the remission was included in the program for extending assimilation at home for prisoners and children through the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 43 of 2021 which was the Ministry of Law and Human Rights' response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation which was still designated as a national non-natural disaster.

"With the issuance of this policy, it is expected to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in prisons/remand centers/LPKA and as a means to reduce the 'overcrowded' which has reached 106 percent. The 'overcrowded' condition has an impact on the less than optimal service and guidance to the inmates," added Rika. .

Prisoners are asked to continue to play an active role in participating in the coaching program and not to violate the law and violate the rules in prisons/remand centers/LPKA.

"The rights of the inmates will definitely be fulfilled as long as they meet the specified conditions," said Rika.

In 2022, the highest number of recipients of RK Eid will come from the North Sumatra region as many as 16,265 people, followed by East Java as many as 14,395 people, and West Java as many as 14,109 people.

The granting of remissions this time saved the prisoners' food budget by Rp. 72,123,435,000 from the average food budget of Rp. 17 thousand per day per person.

Remission is a reduction in serving the criminal period given to prisoners and children who meet the requirements specified in the provisions of the legislation. The amount of the reduction in serving the criminal period given includes 15 days, 1 month, 1 month, 15 days to 2 months.
