Madrid La Liga Champion, Marcelo Establishes Himself As The Player With The Most Trophies In The History Of El Real
JAKARTA – Marcelo has successfully established himself as the Real Madrid player with the most titles. This was done after he helped Los Blancos win the Spanish La Liga this season.
The player who plays as a left-back played from the first minute of the 4-0 home win over Espanyol on Saturday, 30 April evening. Additional three points to make sure the host league title this season.
This is the 24th title for Marcelo during his time with the club from the Spanish capital. That number is the most among other players in the history of Los Blancos.
This achievement makes the 33-year-old player break the 52-year record belonging to club legend Francisco Gento. Gento previously became the player with the highest number of trophies, namely 23 trophies.
Gento has maintained that record since he won his last Copa del Rey title in 1970. Marcelo then equaled a record 23 titles in January when Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup just days before Gento's death.

This is the sixth Spanish League trophy for Marcelo. In addition, he also has four European Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two Copa del Rey and five Spanish Super Cups.
Marcelo joined Madrid from Brazilian club Fluminense in 2006. He was brought in to continue the position of his compatriot at the time, namely Roberto Carlos.
Other Madrid players with the most trophies behind Marcelo and Gento are Sergio Ramos (22 titles) and Karim Benzema (21 titles).
Actually, Marcelo lost his place as a starter this season and didn't play often. However, he was in the starting lineup against Spain as coach Carlo Ancelotti rested most of the regular starters ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City in midweek tomorrow.
Marcelo provided the assist for compatriot Rodrigo who scored the 33rd minute opener against Espanyol last night.
Rodrigo then added to the lead in the 43rd minute, Marco Asensio scored in the 55th minute and substitute Karim Benzema rounded out the win with an extra in the 81st minute.
