Winning "Civil War", Jonathan Christie Ensures Place To 2022 Asian Badminton Championships
JAKARTA - "Civil war" occurred in the semifinals of the 2022 Asian Badminton Championships on Saturday, April 30 afternoon. Jonatan Christie met his compatriot, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, to fight for a place to advance to the final round.
Appearing at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Manila, Jonathan Christie finally came out as the winner and had the right to step up to the top party. With a time of 57 minutes, Jonathan won over Chico with a final score of 21-9, 18-21 and 21-16.
In the first game, Jonathan managed to collect seven consecutive points and lead 7-0. Chico then responded by scoring four consecutive points which made the score 4-7.
Although Chico had time to catch up, Jonathan's impressive performance could bring him ahead in the first interval with a score of 11-4. After the break, Jonathan continued to put pressure on him which then made him able to create a 10-point difference to end with a 21-9 advantage.
While in the second game, it was Chico's turn to give resistance by balancing points at 6-6. But back again to Jonathan's intensity in building attacks which then made him 11-9 ahead in the second game interval.
Chico's struggle to get back up did not end after the break, Chico continued his good momentum by winning four consecutive points which made him lead by five points, 19-14. Jonathan had come close at 16-19, but Chico's shot ensured the lead in the second game with the numbers 21-18.
A draw makes the game have to continue to the deciding round. At this moment Jonathan was able to record a good start through a 9-3 advantage at the beginning of the match.
Had been chased by Chico, Jonathan continued to stay away after winning at the interval with a score of 11-7. The tension continued after the break because of the narrow difference that had occurred, but Jojo's strike on the final point made him win 21-16 which also took him to the final round.
