Now, Amazon Alexa Can Tell You When Security Cameras See Someone Or Packages
JAKARTA - Today, Amazon announced that the Alexa Object Detection Sensor API is now available to developers. This new API allows manufacturers who have Works with Alexa devices and computer vision technology built into their cameras to detect a person or a package.
You can enable this feature in the Alexa app. After that, you can receive real-time announcements on your connected Echo Show, Fira TV, and Fire Tablet devices. You'll also receive notifications on your phone from the Alexa app.
Leading camera manufacturers such as Ring, Google and Abode are partnering with Amazon to offer these features to their customers. Starting today, person detection is available for all Ring video doorbells, and cameras certified under the Works with Alexa certification program.
Additionally, they will also be available on Abode IOTA and outdoor cameras, Google Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired), Nest Cam with spotlight, and Nest Doorbell (battery) soon.
“We are using the Alexa Object Detection Sensor API to allow our customers to extend the capabilities of their Abode cameras, and be notified when they are home when an object of interest is identified,” said Abode CTO Scott Beck.
Beck added that this API allows them to extend this functionality into the home so customers can hear when a package has been delivered or see and talk to an identified person at their front door.
Compatible camera manufacturers can access the Object Detection Sensor API which is available to all developers and camera manufacturers in the Alexa Developer Console.
The Object Detection Sensor API enhances the offerings of camera manufacturers who have developed their own computer vision solutions in three important ways:
Provides Alexa voice notifications on Amazon Echo devices. When the camera detects a package or person, you'll receive a push notification from the Alexa mobile app and hear it from your Echo device. Provide a personalized experience to end users. Customers can decide which devices they want to receive these detection announcements on. They can also customize their respective detection and notification settings for camera and video doorbells. Allows you to automate Smart Home. Configuring a Routine allows Alexa to take certain actions when a person or package is detected, such as turning on a smart light, locking the door, or sounding an alarm.
