BANDA ACEH - The Satreskrim Team of the Banda Aceh Police arrested a husband and wife (couple) with the initials NF (husband) and YM (wife) for circulating counterfeit notes that were printed themselves.

"We arrested the perpetrator after reports from residents that the perpetrator had bought a cellphone using counterfeit money," said Head of Criminal Investigation at the Banda Aceh Police, Kompol M Ryan Citra Yudha, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 25.

Ryan said this case was revealed after the perpetrator with the initials NF (34) bought a used iPhone type cellphone belonging to victim M Ikhsan which he sold through Facebook for Rp. 5.6 million.

After transacting in the Siron area, Want Jaya Sub-district, Aceh Besar, the victim finally realized that the money he received was not genuine or counterfeit. The victim finally made a police report.

"There were 45 pieces of counterfeit notes (Rp 4.5 million) during the transaction, and 23 pieces of Rp 50,000 (Rp 1.15 million) denomination.

Ryan said that after the development was carried out and visited the suspect's boarding house in the Lueng Bata area, Banda Aceh, the perpetrator and his wife were no longer at home. After being searched, they were finally caught in the Keutapang area, Aceh Besar.

Ryan said, in making the counterfeit money, the perpetrator used tools in the form of a printer unit, HVS paper, scissors and clear duct tape with capital from his wife.

"So the role of the wife in this case is to provide capital to buy a printer, she also saw her husband's actions and took part in receiving the counterfeit money," he continued.

Police said the perpetrator had been learning how to make the counterfeit money since 2020 through YouTube videos. But his efforts continued to fail and only this time was successfully made.

"This is the first time the perpetrators have succeeded in making counterfeit money, a total of Rp. 6 million has been printed," said Ryan.
