Genoa Vs Cagliari 1-0, Walter Mazzari Disappointed: Match Decided In The Final Minutes
JAKARTA – Cagliari failed to bring home points during their visit to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, Genoa's headquarters, on Sunday, April 24. I Rossoblu surrendered with a score of 1-0 due to Milan Badelj's goal in the 89th minute.
The result disappointed Cagliari coach, Walter Mazzarri. According to him, the visitors did not deserve to lose.
"We directed the game in a certain way. We created a lot of chances to win the game," Mazzarri was quoted as saying on Cagliari's official website.
"I thought about Joao Pedro's chances. [Razvan] Marin and (Marko) Rog shots. We deserved at least the same result, but then the game was decided in the last minute," he continued.
Despite losing three points, Cagliari's position is still safe on the standings. Joao Pedro and his friends are still sitting in 17th position in the standings with a collection of 28 points from 34 matches.
However, the place is not yet completely safe for Calgiari. The reason is, they are now only three points ahead of Salernitana and Genoa who fill the 18th and 19th places, respectively.
To be able to stay in Serie A next season, Cagliari must get points in the remaining four matches. Moreover, their closest competitor Salernitana still has one match in hand.
Next, I Rossoblu will meet Hellas Verona on Saturday, April 30. Verona is not an easy opponent because currently the team is in ninth position in the standings and has managed to get four points from the last two matches.
"I believe that what we saw today was the right spirit. We fought in an intense and irregular challenge. We were good at defending the game and building chances to win the game. We have to improve and think about the match with Verona," said Mazzari.
The chance to stay in the safe zone is a tough task for Cagliari. The reason is, they still have to meet Salernitana and Inter Milan when they try to survive in Serie A next season.
