Earthquake Of 4.8 Magnitude Shakes Papua's Bintang Mountains
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported an earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude rocked the Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua on Saturday, April 23 evening.
Based on the BMKG report, the earthquake was centered on land 38 kilometers southeast of the Bintang Mountains, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
"Earthquake felt Magnitude: 4.8. Depth: 10 km, 23 April 2022 20:11:52 WIB, coordinates: 4.80 latitude-140.76 east longitude (Earthquake epicenter was on land 38 km southeast of the Bintang Mountains)," the BMKG wrote on its Twitter account. BMKG recorded that this earthquake was also felt in the Oksibil area, with an intensity of III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity). However, until now there has been no report on whether there were casualties or buildings damaged by this earthquake.
BMKG appealed to people in the area to be aware of the possibility of aftershocks.
