PDIP: TPKS Law On Extraordinary Gifts On Kartini Day
JAKARTA - Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) for Health, Women and Children, Sri Rahayu, said the party's general chairman, Megawati Soekarnoputri, paid attention to the Draft Law (RUU) on the Criminal Act of Sexual Violence (TPKS), which has now been ratified.
Sri even said that the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia had always encouraged the PDIP faction in the DPR to immediately ratify the TPKS Bill, which had been waiting for 10 years. This was conveyed in the Coordination Meeting for Women and Children at the same time commemorating Kartini Day which was carried out in a hybrid manner today, Thursday, April 21.
"Welcome with the commitment of the Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mrs. Puan Maharani, in a relatively short time, the discussion and ratification of the TPKS Bill became the TPKS Law," Sri said as quoted from her written statement.
The ratification of the TPKS Law, Sri continued, was an extraordinary moment. In fact, he said, this legislation was a gift in the midst of the momentum of Kartini Day which is commemorated every April 21.
"This is a very extraordinary moment as a Kartini Day gift in 2022 and makes history for the protection of women and children," he said.
Furthermore, PDIP ensures that its party will play an active role in dealing with cases of sexual violence. Moreover, based on data from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, the number of acts of violence is so high.
As an illustration, in 2020, there will be 8,600 and in 2021 an increase of 8,800 cases of violence against women. As for children, in 2020 there will be 11,279 and in 2021 there will be 12,566.
However, this step cannot be done alone by PDIP. Therefore, the handling of cases of sexual violence must be carried out with the relevant parties.
"In handling cases, we cannot work alone, but must synergize and cooperate with related parties," said Sri.
"With good cooperation and synergy with enthusiasm, if we are able to solve one to two cases in each district / city, it is an extraordinary achievement and will have a positive impact on the community," he said.
In this activity, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and DPR Chair Puan Maharani took part in the virtual event. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto, the Chair of the DPP who were physically present including Sadarestuwati, and Wiryanti Sukamdani were present at the PDIP Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.
