IMF Approaches G20 Emerging Countries Gathering In Washington, Talks About Shaken Global Conditions

JAKARTA - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is said to have just held a meeting with finance ministers and leaders from the G20 emerging market countries who are currently gathering in Washington DC.

Meanwhile, the countries in question are Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia, led by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani. Thus the press release of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia which was launched today.

In the report, the IMF stated that the global economy is experiencing geopolitical shocks and is facing consequences to take immediate action in response to geopolitical conditions.

The global financial institution also stated that emerging countries face wider spillover effects, including international trade disruptions, rising commodity prices, including food and energy, increasing numbers of refugees and humanitarian issues.

"This challenge becomes very significant considering that the world is still trying to strengthen the prospects for global economic growth," said the Ministry of Finance's release today, Wednesday, April 20.

Furthermore, the IMF views that the collaboration of countries that are members of the G20 plays a very important role in helping to reduce pressure globally.

"For this reason, steps are needed to encourage policy makers to continue to strengthen a resilient and inclusive economic recovery, overcome the adverse effects of the pandemic, carry out transformational reforms to address the challenges and opportunities of climate change and the use of digital technology," the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

For information, since early this week, a series of IMF – World Bank Group Spring Meetings 2022 meetings have been held in Washington DC, United States of America.

This forum is also an event for Indonesia to strengthen the support of the G20 Presidency for the 2022 period and to increase cooperative relations between members and other countries.
