After Taking Aid, Grandmother And Granddaughter Drift In River Currents In Nias

MEDAN - Gatifina Laia (70) and her 4-year-old granddaughter, Tina Laia, died when they were swept away by the swift current of the Nalawo River, Nalawo Village, District, Bawolato, Nias Regency, North Sumatra.

Public Relations of the Nias Basarnas office, Asanimu Waruwu, said the incident occurred when the victim and her grandson were about to cross the river on foot.

"Suddenly the river water overflowed so that the two victims were swept away by the current," he said, Wednesday, April 20.

Based on the information obtained, the incident began when the victim was about to go home after taking help at the Camat office.

The victim took her grandson across the Nalawo river to their house in Hamlet II, Banua Sibohou Village, Subdistrict, Bawlato, Nias Regency

"They just got back to take help from the government at the Bawolato sub-district office," said Asanimu.

The Nias Basarnas Office, which received the report, immediately dispatched 5 personnel to assist in the search for victims who were swept away in the Nalawo river.

"Since last night rescuer personnel have been to the location to conduct a search, until now the victim has not been found," he said.
