Admits The Proposal To Delay The Election To Help Ma'ruf Amin, Observer: Ironic, Cak Imin Deserves To Be Punished By The People In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - The PKB Chairperson, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin)'s statement regarding the postponement of the election is again in the spotlight. Cak Imin finally appeared after President Joko Widodo rejected his proposal.

This time, Cak Imin reasoned that he proposed a postponement of the election to help Vice President Ma'ruf Amin. Because the government stumbled due to the pandemic for two years.

Political communication observer at Esa Unggul University, Jamiluddin Ritonga, said that the changing reasons for Cak Imin indicated that the postponement of the election was only the wish of a power-hungry elite. This elite group, according to him, is always looking for arbitrary reasons as justification for postponing the election.

"All of the justifications put forward by Cak Imin are clearly against the will of the people. Because, through various surveys, the majority of Indonesians do not want the election to be postponed," said Jamiluddin in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 19.

Jamiluddin said Cak Imin had clearly ignored the will of the people. Ironically, he as the general chairman and deputy chairman of the DPR, who should have fought for the aspirations of the people, acted the opposite.

"Cak Imin's attitude is certainly very ironic, because as the general chairman of the party he should fight for the aspirations of the people, not ignore and negate them," said Jamiluddin.

Therefore, according to Jamiluddin, Cak Imin is no longer fit to be the general chairman of a party in a democratic country. Cak Imin, he said, is more suitable to be a party leader in an authoritarian country.

"So, it is appropriate for the people to punish Imin in the 2024 election. Even PKB cadres deserve to punish their chairman who ignores the will of the people," he said.

Previously, Cak Imin opened his voice regarding the issue of postponing the election which had been rejected by President Joko Widodo.

Waiting for his response after the student demonstration, Cak Imin admitted that the proposed postponement of the election was to help Vice President Ma'ruf Amin. The reason, two years hit by the pandemic, the government can not do anything.

This was conveyed by Cak Imin in his speech at the 62nd Harlah PMII peak event with the theme 'Transformation of the Movement, Caring for Civilization' which took place on Monday night, April 18. The event was broadcast via PMIIOFFICIAL's YouTube account.

"My suggestion is to help Kiai Ma'ruf Amin, in order to help the people. Why help Kiai Ma'ruf? Because so that later in the afterlife, if you are asked this is not enough, it is not enough, the reason is because 2 years of a pandemic there can't be anything," said Cak Imin as seen on the PMIIOFFICIAL YouTube account, Tuesday, April 19.

For the past two years, Cak Imin assessed, the government has only focused on the pandemic, making it difficult to organize events. As a result, the state budget has been used up for handling the pandemic.

"The budget in the DPR has run out to take care of the pandemic, the IKN (National Capital City) has not been worked out at all because of 2 years (pandemic)," said the Deputy Speaker of the DPR for People's Welfare (Kesra).
