Sign Renewable Energy Certificate Cooperation With PLN, H&M Group: Commitment To Overcoming Climate Change

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has invited 10 H&M Group factory partners to sign the sale and purchase of renewable energy certificate (REC) services.

The 10 H&M Group factory partners who signed the REC sale and purchase are PT C-Site Texpia, PT Minu Garment Sukses, PT Dreamwear, PT Kahatex, PT Panasia Jaya Abadi, PT Busana Indah Global, PT Royal Puspita, PT Doosan Jaya Sukabumi, PT Doosan Dunia Clothing, and PT Kreasi Garment Cirebon.

This collaboration is clear evidence of PLN's collaboration with industry players to support the clean energy transition in the country. This is also in line with Indonesia's commitment as the host of the G20 to reduce global carbon emissions.

Through REC, PLN ensures that the energy used by customers comes from EBT-based power plants audited by an international tracking system, APX TIGRs located in California, USA.

“We very much welcome H&M's commitment to encourage the use of renewable energy through REC. And of course, we appreciate the participation of 10 H&M factory partners who are here today to sign the REC purchase agreement," said Executive Vice President of Retail PLN for Java Madura Bali Region, Abdul Farid in a written statement to the media, Wednesday, April 13.

REC is one of PLN's green product innovations to make it easier for customers to get recognition for the use of renewable energy that is transparent, accountable and internationally recognized and without having to incur investment costs for infrastructure development.

Through REC, PLN presents a procurement option to meet the target of up to 100 percent use of renewable energy. The procurement or purchase method is relatively easy, it does not require a long procurement process.

"Customers can register on the web, they will be contacted by the PLN Account Executive, then verify their REC needs, after that they make payments. The REC certificate will be sent via registered email after payment is made," he explained.

General Manager of West Java PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID), Agung Nugraha, added that through REC, 10 H&M factory partners will use around 60,000 MWh of EBT-based electricity until 2026.

Furthermore, based on data from the West Java PLN UID, from 2021 to March 2022, nearly 92,000 MWh of renewable energy has been transferred to a number of West Java PLN UID customers through the purchase of REC.

Agung hopes that this cooperation will continue. "Hopefully more H&M factory partners will join PLN, as a form of our collective efforts to support the transition to a cleaner, sustainable energy," concluded Agung.

The Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Marina Berg stated that this cooperation further strengthens relations between Indonesia and Sweden, especially in terms of collaborating to create a better environment.

"I am very happy for this partnership. This agreement shows a good cooperative relationship and provides benefits for all of us, especially in dealing with the climate crisis," he said.

On the same occasion, Country Manager of H&M Group Production Office Indonesia, Frank Blin Gonsalves stated that his company is committed to contributing in overcoming climate change. This commitment is realized in all lines of the H&M Group, including in Indonesia.

"H&M Group continues to work closely with the Indonesian government and our business partners to provide new solutions and encourage the use of NRE-based power sources in our supply chain," he said.

Frank added, the REC agreement between factory partners H&M Group and PLN is an important step to realize the company's ambitions as well as support the government's agenda towards Indonesia Net Zero Emission in 2060.
