Fahri Hamzah Says Political Parties Are Secretly Discussing Amendments, PDIP: Misleading, No Amendments
JAKARTA - Member of the MPR Review Board from the PDIP faction, Hendrawan Supratikno, denied the statement by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fahri Hamzah who said that the factions in the MPR were in the middle of drafting amendments to the 1945 Constitution.
Hendrawan emphasized that his party had firmly rejected the amendment to avoid stowaways who inserted the discourse on extending the presidential term.
"Misleading news. We firmly state that there will be no amendments during this period," Hendrawan told VOI, Tuesday, April 12.
There is also a plenary meeting that will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13, for reporting on developments related to the formation of the main points of state policy (PPHN) which will be presented without going through an amendment to the 1945 Constitution.
"The progress report of each group. There are 5 groups with different fields," said Hendrawan.
Therefore, he reminded not to cloud the political atmosphere with twisted information.
"So don't believe in twisted information for the sake of clouding the political situation," he continued.
Hendrawan emphasized that the agenda for tomorrow's meeting is only related to PPHN without going through any amendments.
"As a study it is okay, but as a political choice it is not feasible," said Hendrawan.
Previously, former Deputy Speaker of the DPR for the 2014-2019 period, Fahri Hamzah, said that there were political parties that washed their hands with the issue of political delays. But secretly drafted an amendment to the 1945 Constitution which allegedly included a change in the president's term of office.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Gelora Party also emphasized that the members of the council could not be fooled.
"Certain political parties want to wash their hands by saying that from the start they did not agree to the extension and addition of 3 terms. But in the MPR faction they all convened to draft amendments to the 1945 Constitution from the beginning. We can no longer be fooled by the Senayan gang," said Fahri Hamzah via his personal Twitter. , Tuesday, April 12.
MPR Agrees on PPHN to be accommodated as a law, not an amendment to the constitution
The chairman of the MPR Review Board, Djarot Saiful Hidayat previously said that the drafting team had agreed that the PPHN would be accommodated through law alone without going through amendments to the 1945 Constitution.
"Last Wednesday we met with all members of the formulation team involving all MPR factions, including the DPD, and it was agreed that the PPHN should be presented without making any amendments. So the legal form (PPHN) is simply the law," said Djarot when met at the Party School. PDIP Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Sunday, April 10.
According to Djarot, the drafting team from all factions agreed that revitalizing the PPHN through amendments was too risky because it had the potential to open Pandora's box. It is feared that this agenda could be an entry point for realizing the idea of extending the term of office of President Joko Widodo or even the three terms of Jokowi that were put forward by several parties.
Previously there were three options proposed by the Study Board to revive the PPHN, namely amendments to the constitution of the 1945 Constitution, MPR Decrees which also required limited amendments, and through laws. The drafting team agreed to choose the third option.
After the results of the drafting team meeting are brought to a plenary meeting for a decision, the MPR Study Board will then report the decision in a joint meeting of the MPR leadership and the leaders of the DPD faction/group.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI from the PKS faction, Hidayat Nur Wahid welcomed the decision of the drafting team because it was in line with the attitude of his party which rejected the constitutional amendment to revive the PPHN. Hidayat awaits the MPR Study Board's report before the closing session ends on April 14.
"Hopefully if there are no obstacles, the plenary session can be held on Wednesday or Thursday," Hidayat said separately.
