West Sumatra Police Chief: April 11th Demonstration No Anarchism

PADANG - West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Teddy Minahasa Putra emphasized that the student demonstrations in Padang City and 11 regencies/cities on Monday, April 11 were not anarchic.

"There were no injuries, let alone fatalities," he said in Padang, Monday, April 11.

According to him, the friction that occurred during the action was only a form of venting student frustration. In addition, he assessed that the students who threw the stones were only a form of juvenile delinquency.

"It does not lead to anarchism," he was quoted as saying by Antara.

He said the students expressed their opinions in public and the students were accepted by the head of the West Sumatra DPRD.

"And the most important thing is that there were no injuries, let alone fatalities. That's the most important thing," he said.

In addition, he emphasized that the student action did not involve intruders, riders or provocateurs. His party had spread intelligence and free-clothing personnel to mingle with the student masses.

"According to the plan, yes. It's just that sometimes chaos occurs because they vent their frustration," he said

Previously, student demonstrations turned violent. This was triggered when students insisted on entering the West Sumatra DPRD office.

The action of throwing and pushing each other is inevitable. The police were forced to push back the mass of students by firing tear gas.

The throwing and rioting did not last long. The police immediately dispersed the mass of students into the middle of the road. Thus, making students resign and disperse.
