Tomorrow BEM SI Holds Demo, Police Keep Number Of Security Personnel A Secret

JAKARTA - The All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) tomorrow will hold a demonstration in front of the State Palace. This demonstration is related to the rejection of the extension of the President's term of office to 3 terms and the postponement of the 2024 election.

The police said they were ready to secure the demonstration by BEM SI. However, the number of security personnel is kept secret by the police.

"Anyway, PMJ (Polda Metro Jaya) is ready to secure it, we will exert force comparable to those carrying out activities. I don't want to say, just Polda Metro is ready," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol E Zulpan to reporters, Sunday, April 10.

Zulpan did not explain the reason why the police were reluctant to reveal how many personnel would be deployed in this demonstration. He only appealed for the demonstration to be carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner and not anarchic.

"This is the month of Ramadan, we urge all those who carry out activities to also respect other people who do worship, so that they are not tarnished by activities that are contrary to religious values," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Director of Traffic of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Sambodo Purnomo Yogo explained that in order to divert the flow of the BEM SI demonstration, his party had dispatched 300 traffic police personnel assigned to regulate traffic.

Furthermore, Sambodo Purnomo hopes that the demonstration that will be held tomorrow will be peaceful.

"So there are two manipulations, the first is in the Palace Area, the second is around the Indonesian Parliament Building," he said.
