Vice President Invites Muslims To Use Fasting As A Strengthener Of Taqwa
JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin invites Muslims to use fasting as a reinforcement of piety, because fasting has the essence to refrain from lust, which is the hallmark of pious people or muttaqin.
"Let us make this fast a fast that can lead us to become muttaqin. Because indeed the charity accepted by Allah SWT is a muttaqin practice," said the Vice President while giving a Ramadan tausiyah with the theme "La 'Allakum Tattaqun" on TVRI, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 7.
The vice president said that a Muslim must be a faithful and pious servant. Because, people who are pious get the highest position in the view of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala (SWT).
“It is not enough for us to just be a believer. That's why Allah says “Ya ayyuhalladzina aamanuu kutiba 'alaikumushiyaam”, and finally so that we become 'la'allakum tattaqun'. It means being muttaqin, we are not enough to be believers, it is not enough to be Muslims, but we also have to be muttaqin," he said.
Ma'ruf Amin reminded that fasting can be a stronghold for a Muslim to fight his lusts. By fasting, in addition to holding back hunger and thirst, individuals are also trained and forged to control themselves.
Therefore, the practice of fasting is a bridge between a servant and his creator.
“What does that have to do with fasting? Fasting is essentially imsak, self-restraint. People who can carry out God's commands well, leave the prohibitions well, in essence are people who can control themselves. Control yourself from the influence of lust, those who want to violate, who want not to carry out God's commands, "said the Vice President.
