South Sumatra Police Destroyed 532 Gun Shoots Assembled From Operations In 17 Regencies/Cities

PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Police destroyed 532 homemade firearms confiscated from the public during the 2022 Musi Senpi Operation in 17 districts/cities.

The hundreds of homemade firearms consisting of 323 long-barreled and 209 short-barreled guns were destroyed by cutting using an iron cutting machine at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters Shooting Field yard.

"Through this extermination, we convey that the possession of firearms in the community is prohibited and not arbitrary because it is regulated by law," said South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Toni Harmanto in Palembang, Antara, Wednesday, April 6.

Toni ensured that the South Sumatra Police and their ranks would not indiscriminately take firm action against anyone found in the community who is found to have, manufacture, store or hide firearms.

He admitted that the police must act hard enough to remind the public regarding the issue of homemade firearms.

Because the police can't deny that firearms are already attached to the people of South Sumatra, not only in possession but have become an area that produces homemade firearms.

"In the future Senpi Musi Operations, the police have talked about a repressive law enforcement process, so it's better to hand over the firearms voluntarily from now on to police officers," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of South Sumatra Mawardi Yahya said that the provincial government really appreciates the efforts made by the police in stopping illegal possession of firearms in the community.

"From such activities, it is hoped that South Sumatra will be free from the circulation of illegal firearms, which are at risk of being misused to trigger crime," he said.
