Remind Anthony Joshua Not To Rush Into Rematch With Oleksandr Usyk, Mike Tyson: He's Not Ready To Tackle Boxers With Good Shots
JAKARTA – Former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson reminded Anthony Joshua not to rush into a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua was advised to make drastic changes first in training camp before the rematch.
Joshua is currently making plans to take revenge on his Ukrainian opponent. He also handed over the task to his new coach Angel Fernandez to improve his game after replacing his old coach Rob McCracken.
However, Tyson believes the plan for a rematch with Usyk was a bad idea from Joshua. According to Tyson, Joshua needs to fix some pressing matters before he steps into the ring against Usyk who is one of the greatest players of all time.
"I wouldn't fight him straight away unless I was training in the gym with really left-handed fighters. Because you know he's a real fighter who likes to be out of reach, deceptive. " Tyson was quoted as saying by Give Me Sport.
Joshua, 32, was deemed to have failed to use his superior size advantage against Usyk in their inaugural meeting last September. At that time Joshua had to suffer the second defeat of his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
At that time, Joshua had a hard time facing Usyk, who fought with a sensational left-handed hand. For that, Tyson wondered why Joshua was in such a hurry to arrange a rematch with his 35-year-old opponent.
"Size doesn't mean anything. When you look at the stats and they say he's 240, this guy's 220, you can't weigh a person's wants and desires, and determination. That move throws him off. I've had times of that move, like dancing. Anyone. can't keep up," Tyson said.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Joshua's rematch with Usyk will 'definitely' take place in June. Previously, Usyk had also left his country in the midst of the Russian invasion to focus on training against Joshua.
Hearn revealed that he worked hard with Usyk promoter Alex Krassyuk to find a suitable match venue after receiving several offers from many countries around the world. The offer included those from the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia, which once held a rematch between Andy Ruiz and Joshua.
"The Middle East are obviously very interested in that fight, we want a fight in London as well if possible. I think maybe this week, early next week, we will start setting some dates. However, as I said: Usyk-Anthony Joshua rematch for sure will take place in June," said Hearn.
