Alert! Dozens Of Houses In Kemuning Lor Village, Jember Are Prone To Landslides
JEMBER - Dozens of houses in Kemuning Lor Village, Jember Regency, East Java are prone to landslides due to heavy rains that have lashed the local area for the past few days.
"There are eight houses in Termite Hamlet, Kemuning Lor Village, Arjasa District, which were affected by landslides when heavy rains hit the local area on Thursday (24/3) night," said Head of Termite Hamlet, Alimudin, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 25.
According to him, the location of the settlements in Termite Hamlet is in a hilly area and the contours of the land are still unstable, so the potential for landslides is quite high.
"There are 24 heads of families living in hilly areas prone to landslides, so we urge the public to increase their preparedness for further landslides," he said.
He hopes that the community can evacuate themselves independently if it rains on the hillsides in Termite Hamlet for a few hours, so that people can temporarily evacuate to their relatives' houses or to a mosque that is safe from the landslide location.
"Soil cracks and landslides will be temporarily covered with tarpaulins so that the heavy rain does not continue to erode the landslides," he said.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Heru Widagdo, said that based on data, two sub-districts were hit by landslides, namely Panti and Arjasa districts.
"Based on the data, there are two landslide points in Panti District and one landslide point in Arjasa District, so we urge the public to increase their alertness during high rainfall," he said.
People whose houses are located in hilly areas are advised to increase their awareness of the threat of landslides because it is predicted that rainfall in Jember will still be high for the next few days.
