Inaugurating SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging, Jokowi: We Show The World, Indonesia's Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Has Developed

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the General Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) with the first ultra-fast charging type in Indonesia which will support the operation of delegated vehicles at the G20 Summit.

President Jokowi said the presence of an electric car as the official vehicle for the delegation of the G20 countries was a form of Indonesia's commitment to support the energy transition. According to him, the G20 Presidency is a golden opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate its commitment to reducing emissions, especially through the use of electric cars during the G20 Summit.

"We show the world that the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia has grown and developed rapidly. We have to show it from upstream, in the battery industry and other components to downstream, namely with SPKLU," said President Jokowi at the inauguration of the first Ultra Fast Charging SPKLU in Indonesia. which was broadcast through the Youtube channel, Friday, March 25.

According to him, the acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem is important as part of the government's grand design to implement the energy transition from fossil energy to new and renewable energy (EBT).

"I am happy that PLN has prepared 60 SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging 200KW, and 150 points of home charging facilities to support the G20 Summit. Especially SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging which has the advantage of very fast charging and dynamic distribution features to charge two cars at once," said Jokowi.

Later, there will be 60 SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging units placed at the ITDC Central Parking and at Griya Alam Lestari / Apurva Kempinsi as electric vehicle charging centers for the G20 Summit delegates.

On the same occasion, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that as the host of this year's G20 Summit, PLN supports the government by preparing all infrastructure and electricity-based operational vehicles as a showcase for carbon emission reduction actions.

"In the long term, we will provide this infrastructure not only for the G20 summit meeting, but also we will scale it up to support the needs of the community in the use of electric vehicles," he said.

In supporting the G20 Summit and accelerating the electric vehicle ecosystem, especially in Bali, PLN will build a 200 kilowatt (kW) ultra fast charging SPKLU of 60 units that requires an investment of IDR 72.84 billion.

Darmawan said the SPKLU ultra fast charging function as a medium for charging 656 electric vehicles that will operate during the G20 Summit.

"With the 200 kW ultra fast charging SPKLU, charging electric vehicles only takes less than 30 minutes for 1 vehicle," he explained.

In addition to the ultra fast charging SPKLU, PLN has also built 21 fast charging SPKLU units and provides support in providing 150 home charging units. On the other hand, the power source used by the SPKLU ultra fast charging and home charging already has a renewable energy certificate (REC).

To ensure electricity reliability during the G20 Summit, Darmawan explained, the condition of the Bali subsystem has a capable power of 1,322 megawatts (MW), with a peak load of 754.6 MW (2021). Thus, there is a reserve of 567.8 MW.

The projected peak load during the G20 Summit is 980 MW so that the reserve margin is 342.1 MW.

"We have also increased the reliability of the main locations for electricity supply, such as Ngurah Rai Airport, Kempinski, Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Bali Turtle Island Development, Mangrove Tahura, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, and 14 lodging hotels for heads of state," said Darmawan.
