The Instagram Tag Feature Is No Longer Only For Accounts, Users Can Now Tag Products
JAKARTA - Instagram has updated its tag feature, which is now not only for accounts, but also to mark a product. So, now each user can tag certain items in their uploads.
Until now, product tags were only available for business accounts and content creators, but over the next few months, Instagram will allow all users in the United States (US) to access tags.
It's not clear when the company will expand the reach of this new capability to all users other than the US.
Tagging products works the same way as tagging other accounts, users can add them to their posts feed by tapping on specific areas of their image. Product tags are available for businesses that have a store on Instagram.
Meta's proprietary social media says these new capabilities will make it easier for people to discover the products of the people they follow and for businesses to grow their audience on the platform.
Business owners will receive a notification when someone on Instagram tags their product. They can also see all the content tagged on their profile in one place.
A brand can also control who tags their products by managing their product tag preferences in account settings.
“Getting a new pair of earrings from a small business you love? Tag products in your Feed posts so your friends and followers can learn more about the earrings and buy them," Instagram told TechCrunch, Wednesday, March 23.
“People come to Instagram to share and find trends and inspiration. Product tagging will allow anyone to support their favorite small business, share how they style themselves along with the products they use, and more."

According to Instagram, an average of 1.6 million people tag at least one brand each week on the app. The company has been working to streamline users' shopping experience on its apps for the past few years.
Last year, Instagram added a new feature to help connect online shoppers to products sold within the app at the top of the Shop tab, where consumers can find, browse and shop for all of the latest product launches and see upcoming launches.
In addition, shoppers can also sign up to receive reminders about the products they are interested in and browse the products and collections that have recently appeared on Instagram.
