Prosecutor Rejects Defense Of Munarman Defendant In Terrorism Case

JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the East Jakarta District Court (PN) rejected the defense of the defendant Munarman and his legal advisor in the case of alleged criminal acts of terrorism.

"The Replic from the Public Prosecutor essentially rejects the defense of the defendant and the defendant's legal counsel," said the East Jakarta District Court Panel of Judges in a follow-up hearing reported by Antara, Wednesday, March 23.

The East Jakarta District Court Judges then scheduled a duplicate reading on Friday (25/3). Before closing the trial, the judge also asked Munarman if he had anything to say before he was brought back to the Polda Metro Jaya detention center.

"Okay, the trial is declared over and will reopen, God willing, on Friday, March 25, 2022, around 13.00 WIB," said the judge.

The former secretary of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) was sentenced to eight years in prison in connection with the alleged criminal act of terrorism. The Public Prosecutor assessed that Munarman was proven to have carried out malicious conspiracy, preparation, experimentation, or assistance to carry out acts of terrorism.

Munarman was deemed to have violated Article 15 in conjunction with Article 7 of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of Perppu Number 1 of 2002 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.
