Call Not Invited, Rachel Zegler Becomes Presenter Nominated At Oscar 2022
JAKARTA - Actress Rachel Zegler was invited to attend the culmination of the 2022 Oscars on 27 March. Previously, netizens protested after the West Side Story star did not receive an invitation even though his film received a nomination.
According to THR, apart from being invited, Zegler is also scheduled to be a presenter to read the nominations on the final night.
It is known that on Sunday, March 20, Rachel Zegler replied to a fan's comment who wrote, "Can't wait to see what you'll be wearing at Oscar night."
Zegler responded to the comment by replying, "I wasn't invited so (I'll be wearing) my boyfriend's sweatpants and flannels."
Rachel Zegler's answer made netizens furious. Not a few who protest especially Zegler is the main character in the film West Side Story. He did not receive a nomination so neither the Academy nor Disney had any obligation to invite him.
On the other hand, the Academy has also limited the audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But netizens say that as the main character, Zegler has the right to appear to support the West Side Story film directly.
“I don't know, I've tried everything but nothing seems to be happening :') I'll be supporting West Side Story from my couch and proud of the work we did three years ago,” said Rachel Zegler.
“We live in an unprecedented situation and a lot of work behind the scenes makes the film happen. This is for film productions (which I'm currently doing in London) and similar award events. Let's respect the process and I will stop playing with my cellphone," he continued.
The 20-year-old actress is currently in London filming the film Snow White. He had to adjust his shooting schedule to be able to attend the Oscars on Sunday night.
