Indonesian Delegation Proposes The Establishment Of An Ad Hoc Committee For Mediation Of Russia And Ukraine At The ASEAN+3 Meeting
JAKARTA - Russia's invasion of Ukraine is still ongoing. There has been no sign of the two countries in conflict taking a peaceful path.
Despite having carried out several negotiations, no peace agreement has been reached by Russia and Ukraine.
The Indonesian delegation at the ASEAN+3 meeting proposed the formation of an ad hoc committee for mediation between Russia and Ukraine, which is currently in conflict. Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, hopes that the proposals agreed upon in the ASEAN+3 meeting can be brought to a wider forum, the Asian Pacific Group (APG).
"The ad hoc committee (in charge) is to talk to the two parliaments, Russia and Ukraine. That's what we propose", said Fadli Zon when met after attending the ASEAN+3 meeting, as quoted from Antara.
According to Fadli Zon, partiality to one side, as shown by many delegates from Europe, cannot reduce conflicts and resolve problems.

According to him, the conflict can only end if the dialogue path between the two parties begins to open.
"We hope that parliament has a role in bridging and finding a solution to this conflict, not just attacking one party, because it does not solve the problem", said the chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI.
On the same occasion, he said that Indonesia had been sent by the ASEAN+3 forum to bring the proposal to the Asian Pacific Group meeting held at BICC today.
The APG Forum, which will be chaired by a delegation from Vietnam, is also a side event of the IPU's 144th Session.
Although the IPU's 144th Session highlighted the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, delegates from the two countries did not attend.
Nevertheless, the IPU remains committed to discussing the issue and seeking a resolution that can stop the invasion and urge the two parties to a ceasefire, said IPU President Duarte Pacheco in Nusa Dua, Bali, Saturday, March 19.
Indonesia is hosting the IPU's annual session for the first time. The 144th Session of the IPU this year will be held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) Nusa Dua, on March 20-24, 2022.
