600 Participants Join The First Drag Race Competition In Palembang

PALEMBANG - The inaugural drag race competition which was held in Palembang, South Sumatra, was enthusiastically welcomed by the racers in the area. This was confirmed by the number of participants who reached 600 participants.

The competition, titled RD Drag Bike and Drag Race Palembang 210M 2022, took place on Saturday, March 19, and ended on Sunday, March 20, at the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) Racing Circuit, Palembang.

"The enthusiasm is extraordinary. There are at least 600 participants who take part in this inaugural competition," said the Regional Secretary of Palembang City, Ratu Dewa, as reported by Antara, Saturday, March 19.

According to Ratu, there are several race classes in the drag competition which was held for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, together with AGP Production and the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) South Sumatra.

Each of the 18 classes for Drag Bike which consists of four points classes, three Sumatran local classes, three bracket classes and eight supporting classes.

Then 15 classes for Drag Race cars, including seven bracket classes (9 - 12 seconds), one FFA, monster deasel, City Car stock max 1,300 cc - 1,500 cc, and sedan modification.

"We noted there were 350 participants for drag bikes and 250 participants for cars. They were racers who came not only from Palembang but also from outside the region," said Ratu, accompanied by the Daily Chair of IMI South Sumatra, Taufik Husni.

The main objective of holding the drag race competition, said Ratu, is to educate and at the same time nurture Palembang's young racers so as not to do illegal racing on the highway because it has more bad effects.

"Then prepare them to become professional and accomplished racers, including revitalizing the racing world in Palembang, which was stopped during the pandemic with strict adherence to health protocols," said Ratu.
