Russia Accuses Meta Platform Inc. Carry Out Extremist Activities Against Their Country, Ask The US To Act Immediately
JAKARTA – The Russian Embassy in the United States on Friday, March 11, demanded that Washington stop the "extremist activities" of Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc., which temporarily lifted its ban on calls for violence against the Russian military and leadership.
️We demand that authorities stop the extremist activities of @Meta, take measures to bring the perpetrators to justice. Users of #Facebook & #Instagram did not give the owners of these platforms the right to determine the criteria of truth and pit nations against each other. https://t.co/1RkrjRmEtA pic.twitter.com/sTacSm4nDt

Meta Platforms will allow Facebook and Instagram users in several countries to call for violence against Russia and the Russian army in the context of the invasion of Ukraine. This appeared in an internal email seen by Reuters on Thursday. This is also a temporary change to the hate speech policy, which applies to the two social media.
"Meta's aggressive and criminal policy that leads to the incitement of hatred and hostility towards Russia is outrageous," the Russian embassy said in a statement. "The company's actions are another testament to the unregulated information warfare announced in our country."
The Russian embassy said it had asked US authorities to "stop Meta's extremist activities and take action to bring the perpetrators to justice".
However, until now both the US government and Meta have not commented on the demands from the Russian Embassy.
