Canelo Alvarez Ready To Face Russian Boxer Dmitry Bivol, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko Asks To Cancel Duel
JAKARTA - Canelo Alvarez is preparing for his first official fight in 2022.
The Mexican boxer posted on his Instagram account that he started his preparations for a duel against Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo shows off some of his moves in the ring. He seemed happy to be back in focus on the official fight.
The super-middleweight world champion is looking forward to big win celebrations in the US on the weekend of May 5.
Canelo is going into the 61st fight of his career in which he has 60 fights: 57 wins, two draws and one loss (to Floyd Mayweather Jr.).
Meanwhile, Bivol will be an opponent who has a record of 19 wins (11 KOs) and zero defeats. Of course, he wants to maintain his unbeaten record.
It is hoped that in September Canelo will fight Gennady Golovkin, which will be the third edition of this duel.
In his Instagram post, you can also see his coach, Eddy Reynoso, who sees him smiling at his dedication in the ring.
Meanwhile, former world heavyweight champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, who fought on the front row against Russian forces invading Ukraine, raised their voices to call for the fight between Canelo and Dmitry Bivol to be canceled because he is Russian.
Vitali Klitschko, now mayor of Kyiv, argued, "It's not against individual athletes, but Ukraine needs the world to put all the pressure on Russia."
