Bawaslu Doesn't Care About 2024 Election Issues Postponed, Still Prepares Stages Until Voting 14 February 2024

JAKARTA - Member of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) RI Rahmat Bagja admitted that his party as the organizer of the election still complied with the government's decision and the KPU which determined that the election day would be held on February 14, 2024.

This is in response to the growing proposal to postpone the election that was rolled out by a number of political party elites.

"In the organizer's perspective, what we obey is the KPU's decision to hold a vote on February 14, 2024," said Bagja in a virtual discussion, March 9.

Bagja explained that election organizers work by complying with the laws and regulations. According to the law, the election will still be held on February 14, 2024. Thus, Bawaslu will not take part in dealing with the issue of postponing the election until the regulations are changed.

"Until now, there is no issue of delay in the perspective of election organizers. It may be a debate or political discourse. We are still listening, understanding the whole perspective of the discourse, but our focus is on voting on February 14, 2024," said Bagja.

Until now, Bagja admitted that his party was still waiting for the KPU to issue regulations regarding the stages of the election. As is known, the election stage begins in July 2022. After the KPU regulations are issued, Bawaslu will follow up by drafting Bawaslu regulations.

"According to the agreement, we are waiting for the PKPU stages to be made by the KPU, then follow the Bawaslu regulations to oversee the existing stages until 2024," he explained.
