30 Transjakarta Electric Buses Officially Operate, Anies: A Historic Day For The Transportation System In Jakarta

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the operation of 30 electric-powered Transjakarta buses. Dozens of electric buses will operate on four routes, namely the Senayan-Senen Roundabout, Tanah Abang-Senen, Blok M-Tanah Abang, and Ragunan-Blok M.

In the inauguration, Anies said that the Transjakarta electric bus would be the first electric bus to operate in the capital city. He also considers the inauguration of the electric bus as a historic day for the transportation system.

"Today is a historic day for the transportation system in Jakarta because today is the official start of electric-based vehicles for public mobility in the capital city," said Anies in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, March 8.

Anies said that the procurement of Transjakarta electric buses would increase to 100 units by the end of this year. This, said Anies, is part of the implementation of Governor's Regulation No. 90 of 2021 concerning Climate Resistant Regional Low-Development Plans.

Anies said Jakarta was facing two challenges regarding mobility, namely air pollution and congestion. These two challenges are caused by the high number of motorized vehicles passing through the capital city.

Therefore, the provision of electric buses is an effort to control the high rate of air pollution and reduce the use of private vehicles that cause congestion.

"The solution that we are trying to offer to the public is to facilitate public transportation, build an extensive public transportation system and generally electric-based vehicles," said Anies.

"So we can do the problem of reducing carbon emissions at the same time that there is a reduction in the number of private vehicles," he continued.
